The Penance Pass (English for Pass of Atonement ) is a mountain pass in East Antarctic Victoria Land . It is the lowest and most easterly connection between the Shangri-la and the Miers Valley .
The name goes back to participants in a campaign carried out by New Zealand's Victoria University's Antarctic Expeditions from 1960 to 1961 .
