The Penguin Highway ( English for penguin expressway ) is a plain on Signy Island in the archipelago of the South Orkney Islands . On the Gourlay Peninsula , it connects Fur Seal Cove with the east bank of Caloplaca Cove in a northeast-southwest orientation .

The Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey carried out surveys between 1947 and 1950. Aerial photographs were taken in 1968 by the Royal Navy . The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named the plain in 2004 after the fact that penguins use it as an overland route.
