The pennon is a triangular pennant mostly made of silk that is attached to a lance .

The word Pennon is derived from the Latin penna , which means wing or feather.

history

In the Middle Ages it was the simple knight's lance jewelry . A knight who became a banner lord simply cut off his pennon to get his banner . The French saying: faire de pennon bannière (in German: “to rise in rank”) comes from this practice . A penny bearer also had the right to put a copy of his metal penny on his castle .
