People 4 Soil
People 4 Soil (short for: People for Soil, also spelled: People4Soil ) is a network of more than 300 European NGOs , research institutes, farmers' associations and environmental protection groups that campaign for soil protection . It works towards the European Commission declaring soil a public good. People 4 Soil was initiated by the Italian environmental organization Legambiente and was presented to the public on December 5th, 2015.
The organization wants to revive a Soil Protection Framework Directive that the European Commission withdrew in 2014.
On July 27, 2016, the European Commission recognized People 4 Soil as a European Citizens' Initiative (ECI). The formal registration will take place on September 12, 2016.
From September 2016, the network aims to collect one million signatures from at least seven different EU member states within one year. If it succeeds, it is up to the Commission to respond within three months. The Commission can decide whether or not to do so.

People 4 Soil proposes to the EU Commission to "recognize soil as a common heritage that requires an EU level of protection and to develop a binding legal framework that takes into account the most important dangers for the soil."
