Papel (or Pepel ) is a language that is spoken in Guinea-Bissau , Guinea and occasionally in Senegal , mainly in the Casamance region .
It is part of the recognized languages in the northern group of the West Atlantic languages , which in turn form a subgroup of the Niger-Congo language family .
Other names for the language are Pepel, Papei, Moium and Oium.
The language is spoken by the people of the Pepel (or Papel) as their first language, but they increasingly speak Guinea-Sissau Creole , Portuguese and, in Senegal, French or Wolof - some of them also as their mother tongue .
