Per Gahrton

Per Gahrton (born February 2, 1943 in Malmö ) is a Swedish politician of the Miljöpartiet de Gröna .

Life

Per Gahrton studied sociology and graduated with a doctorate. From 1976 to 1979 he sat for the Liberal People's Party as a member of the Swedish parliament .

After leaving parliament, he left the People's Party and became a co-founder of the Swedish Greens in 1981. From 1984 to 1985 he was one of two party spokesmen. 1988–1991 and again 1994–1995 he sat as a member of the Greens in the Reichstag. From 1995 to 2004 he was a member of the European Parliament .

Since 2004 Gahrton has been chairman of the pro-Palestinian solidarity movement Palestinagrupperna i Sverige .
