Steenberg was organist at Vålerenga Church from 1902 to 1927, then until 1940 at Markus Church in Oslo . He has taught at the school for the blind, the teachers' academy and the Oslo Conservatory. His students included church musicians such as Rolf Karlsen , Ludvig Nielsen and Conrad Baden .
