Peraeon

As Peraeon also Peräon or Pereion (from the Greek. Peraios , ulterior ) which is Thoraxbschnitt at crustaceans (Crustacea) denotes that the locomotion serving walking legs ( Peraeopoden wears). This section is usually not fused with the head in front of it and also has no maxillae or maxillipedas .

The segments of the peraeon are called peraeomers (sometimes called peraeonites ) and its extremities are called peraeopods . In decapods , too , the part of the cephalothorax that contains the five pairs of legs is often referred to as the peraeon. In other species, between three and seven pairs of legs can belong to the peraeon.
