Percy Mansell Jones
Percy Mansell Jones (born April 11, 1889 in Carmarthen , Wales , † January 24, 1968 ) was a British Romance studies and literary scholar.
life and work
Jones studied at Aberystwyth and Balliol College , Oxford. A stay in Paris in 1913 brought him in touch with Ezra Pound , Émile Verhaeren and André Gide . He became a lecturer in Aberystwyth, Cardiff and Cambridge. From 1937 to 1951 he was Professor of French at the University College of North Wales at Bangor , from 1951 to 1959 Professor of Modern French Literature at the University of Manchester .
The University of Wales awarded Jones the honorable degree of Doctor of Letters (DLitt) in 1960.
