PT Selbit
PT Selbit (born November 17, 1881 in Hampstead (London) , County Middlesex ; † November 19, 1938 ; real name: Percy Thomas Tibbles ) was an English magician . He was the first to demonstrate the Illusion of the Sawed-Up Virgin .
Live and act
In the early 1900s, Tibbles became a professional illusionist . From 1902 to 1908 he performed with a "pseudo-Egyptian" performance under the stage name Joad Heteb ( Joab Hetab ). In 1912 and 1913, Tibbles worked for Maskelyne and Devant . He later developed his future pseudonym by reading the surname backwards, omitting the second Bs; in addition there were the initials of the first names.
The Sawn-up Virgin , developed by him, was first demonstrated by Selbit on January 17, 1921 at Finsbury Park Empire. He also developed the following illusions: Walking through a Wall (1914), Girl / Man without a Middle (1924), Through the Eye of a Needle (1924), Million Dollar Mystery (around 1927), Stretching a Girl , Avoiding the Crush , The Mighty Cheese and Selbit's Blocks . The Siberian Chain Escape may also be from Selbit.
PT Selbit has a seat in the Society of American Magicians Hall of Fame today .
