Pereiro is a place and a former municipality in the Algarve in southern Portugal .
history
Since at least the 16th century, Pereiro was an independent municipality.
With the territorial reform of 2013 , the municipality of Pereira was dissolved and merged with the municipality of Alcoutim to form the new municipality of Alcoutim e Pereiro .

Pereiro was the seat of a municipality of the same name ( Freguesia ) in the district ( Concelho ) of Alcoutim in the Faro district . 214 inhabitants live in the former freguesia on an area of 99.65 km² (as of June 30, 2011).

In the course of administrative reform in September 29, 2013 Portugal on the Freguesias Pereiro and were Alcoutim for new Freguesia the Freguesias de Alcoutim e Pereiro União summarized. Alcoutim became the seat of the municipality, the former municipal administration in Pereiro continued to exist as a branch office and citizens' office.
