União the Freguesias de Alcoutim e Pereiro , short Alcoutim e Pereiro is a town ( freguesia ) in the district ( Concelho ) of Alcoutim on the northern edge of the Algarve , in southern Portugal .
The municipality has 1,134 inhabitants on an area of 231.17 km² (as of 2011 figures).
The municipality was created in the course of the regional reform in Portugal on September 29, 2013 by merging the municipalities of Alcoutim and Pereiro . Alcoutim became the seat of the municipality, the former municipal administration in Pereiro continued to exist as a branch office and citizens' office.
