Vaqueiros is a town and municipality in the Algarve in southern Portugal .

history

In local mines people have mined ores, especially copper, since prehistoric times. There is evidence of mining in the various mines of the Cova dos Mouros from the Copper Age to the Romans .

Vaqueiros has been an independent municipality since at least the 16th century.
