Periphetes

Periphetes ( Greek  Περιφήτης ) is a figure from Greek mythology , a son of the god Hephaestus and the Antikleia .

With his iron club, Periphetes ambushes unsuspecting travelers who are on their way to the place of worship Epidaurus in order to rob them. He is eventually hunted down by Theseus .

The best-known version of the story of Periphetes ( "Clubswinger") is found in the Metamorphoses of Ovid , VII 436f.
