Perkele is a Oi-punk! - band from Gothenburg , which in 1993 was based there. Perkele is a Finnish curse (literally “ devil ”, roughly “damned”) that is used in less upscale circles .
Their songs cover classic Oi! Themes, like the working class , beer, and fun.
Band history
Perkele was founded in 1993 in a cellar in the Swedish city of Gothenburg . The band recorded their first demo tape Nu får det vara nog in early 1994 and the second - Det växande hatet - in late 1994. After many concerts , Perkele were already a well-known punk band playing fast punk with Swedish folk music influences. After Anders 1995 lost interest in Perkele, the three-piece band went on and wrote new songs for her demo tape action , which was recorded and released 1995th Nationwide concerts increased the band's fame in Sweden , but soon Olof left the band too. Replacement was found in an old friend of Ron's.
Before Perkele, Ron and Chris played together with Olaf and Anders in a band called AIDS . Chris joined the band in 1997 and Perkele set out to plan a CD. Since working on Aktion , more and more Oi! And Skael elements had mixed into their sound. The CD Från flykt till kamp , limited to 540 copies , was released in 1998 on Ron's own label and is now a sought-after rarity, of which even the band hardly has any copies.
The distribution of the record turned out to be difficult and Perkele were only able to sell a few CDs at their concerts and through friends in their hometown. However, some copies also reached France and Germany and now brought the band connections outside of Sweden.
Now Ron began to write songs again, this time in English . In addition, the style developed more and more in the Oi! Direction. The first English song was Working Class, followed by Raise your Voice . Perkele recorded some of the songs and sent them to various labels. Soon after, the band received an email from Bronco Bullfrog Records in Spain. The band recorded the rest of the English-language songs in the studio and released the album Voice Of Anger in 2001 . This release made Perkele known outside of Sweden and soon afterwards had her first concert abroad in Denmark. As part of the attempt to expand the band to a four-man band, the bass player Richard was added to the band, so that Chris tried successfully as a guitarist.
Again Perkele went to the studio, this time to record the album No Shame . The influence on the songs came from the Rolling Stones , the old Status Quo , AC / DC , American Oi! '77 punk and especially the old British Oi! like The Last Resort , Crux and Criminal Class . The album was released in 2002 by Blind Beggar Records. Shortly before the release, however, Richard left the band to turn to private problems.
Perkele became a trio again and Chris became the band's bassist again. The success of the album No Shame gave Perkele the opportunity to tour Germany, France, Ireland, Norway, Belgium and Prague. The fan base grew and the support increased from concert to concert.
In 2003 the EP Göteborg and three new songs ( Göteborg , Du fattar ingenting and Sanningen ) were recorded. Soon afterwards the studio and rehearsal room were moved to the Perkel headquarters . There were many songs that were released on the 2004 album Stories from the past . During the recording, a good friend of Ron's died, which greatly influenced the sound of the album.
Perkele received more and more requests for concerts and interviews from all over the world and soon contacts with Bandworm Records were made . The label took over the merchandise . Since Blind Beggar Records got bigger and older over time, they sold some of the rights to other labels, including a. to Bandworm Records.
A new studio was booked for the new album and Confront was recorded. The album was full of new influences such as Finnish tango . Confront was released in 2005 and the reviews have been very positive worldwide.
After the release there were concerts in Athens , Valencia , Magdeburg , Hildesheim , Prague and many other places. However, Perkele only play a few concerts a year and the events are always sold out.
In 2006 the DVD Sound of the streets was released . The DVD was recorded at the Subculture Festival 2006 in Prague and comprises 15 songs with a running time of 61 minutes.
After only two appearances in Germany at the Endless Summer Open Air and Spirit Festival 2008, their first live album, Songs for you, was released in October 2008 on Bandworm Records, which was recorded in the Sackfabrik in Magdeburg in 2007 .
In December 2008, the mini-album Längan was released with three songs sung in Finnish and four in Swedish , which was a novelty for Perkele to date.
