The album received mostly mixed reviews.

Kim Lange from the e-zine Laut.de judges positively: In his debut album Left Boy shows "his reflective side" . In the past he had "tried too often on slow, emotional songs" . The dance floor character of the songs shows that “he rightly fills the halls and knows how to inspire with his concerts” . She sums up that Permanent Midnight " illustrates his talent as a producer, lyricist and composer" and that "the associated videos show a lot of humor and creativity" .

Konrad Spremberg from the review portal Plattentests.de does not share this assessment and tends to judge it negatively: It is "brave to combine everything that people have freaked out at in recent years" . Nevertheless, he got the impression that Left Boy celebrated himself “too intensely” and lost “all sense of dramaturgy in the party frenzy” .

Nina Tatschl from the Austrian music blog pressplay.at rated the album similarly. Some songs are by all means “innovative and versatile” , but he draws a “rather questionable and ridiculous moral picture of today's youth” . In the end, the record leaves an impression that is too “childish and swanky” .
