Perrhenate

Perrhenates are chemical compounds of the perrhenate anion ReO 4 - . The perrhenates are the salts of the perrhenic acid HReO 4 .

Extraction and presentation

The reaction of a base and the perrhenic acid produces the perrhenate anion.

Examples:

Sodium hydroxide and perrhenic acid react to form sodium perrhenate and water .
Ammonia and perrhenic acid react to form ammonium perrhenate and water .

properties

Like the perchlorate anion, the perrhenate ion has a tetrahedral structure. The perrhenate salts have a different color depending on the cation . The pertechnetate anion TcO 4 - has similarities with the perrhenate ion in terms of its chemistry. The anion is stable over a wide pH range. At a very high pH value, ReO 5 3− is also formed . It was also observed that ReO 4 - more strongly coordinated than the perbromate ion BrO 4 - or the perchlorate ion ClO 4 - , but in contrast to the bromide Br - or chloride Cl - the coordination is weaker.
