Perspicaris is an extinct arthropod researched in the form of fossils from the Cambrian . Perspicaris is one of the very primeval arthropods from the Burgess Shale and is thereforerelevantfor clarifying the origin of the group in the context of the radiation of multicellular animals ( Cambrian explosion ). The fossil was described in detail by DEG Briggs in 1977.
The living animal was about 2–3 cm long and probably moved by swimming. It had a two-part carapace and pronounced stalk eyes; the name Perspicaris means "sharp-eyed crab" (Briggs 1977).
