The Pestalozzi School in Landau is a three-class elementary school in the inner city of Landau in the Palatinate . The school building, a three-story neo-baroque hipped roof building from 1895/96 with a three-and-a-half-story neo-classicist extension from 1924, is a listed building .
The school is only a few steps away from Landau's market square and town hall. In the school year 2010/11 around 300 children attended the Pestalozzi School, 235 of them also attended the all-day school in the afternoon, which was organized according to the additive model. This makes the Pestalozzi School one of the largest all-day schools in Rhineland-Palatinate. It is named after the Swiss pedagogue Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi (1746–1827).
history
The Pestalozzi School was inaugurated in 1896. In 1923/24, the so-called “Boys School House” was added as an extension to the school. In the 2002/03 school year it became a non-compulsory all-day school.
The building is entered in the register of cultural monuments of the city of Landau.
All-day elementary school
Since the beginning of the 2002/2003 school year, the Pestalozzi School has been non-compulsory all-day school . The educational concept of the all-day school provides that in addition to the homework supervision, which is mainly done by teachers, a wide range of working groups (AGs) is available to the students. While the pupils from the second grade onwards can choose the AGs themselves, the first graders go to the various working groups as a class. In addition to the creative working groups, the Pestalozzi School attaches great importance to various sporting offers. Working groups that support morning learning or that deal with the environment and nature complete the offer.
