Plague column in Korneuburg

The plague column (also: Trinity column ) in the municipality of Korneuburg in Lower Austria was built in 1747 by Franz Leopold Fahrmacher. It stands on the main square and is a listed building .

The Korneuburg merchant Johann Michael Jochinger donated the plague column in 1747 in addition to mass grants for his family and himself. In the lowest row of statues, St. John the Baptist is shown on the northwest side. A lamb is depicted next to him. St. Aegidius is depicted on the northeast side, which points towards the parish church . This is consecrated to St. Aegidius . A pilgrim statue is depicted on the southeast side. It probably represents James the Elder . The three reliefs on the same level show the three Christian virtues : faith in the form of a monk, hope, represented by a woman praying, and love in the form of a woman crowned with a citizen's crown who helps the needy. On the level above, the Holy Family and the three plague saints Sebastian , Rochus and Rosalia are depicted. Above are the statues of the three archangels, Michael , Raphael and Gabriel . The column closes with the coronation of Mary by the Holy Trinity . The column is made of Zogelsdorf sandstone and stands on the site of the former pillory.
