The Peter Weiss Foundation for Art and Politics eV . was founded in December 1993 as a non-profit association based in Berlin . The namesake is Peter Weiss . The founding members included Mircea Dinescu , Ulrich Schreiber and Alfons Söllner . Ulrich Schreiber and Rolf Hosfeld are the directors .

The aim of the Peter Weiss Foundation is to "make the often tense relationship between art and politics the subject of a broad discussion". The main areas of activity are the promotion of art and culture and political and aesthetic education.

Since 2001, the foundation has organized the Berlin International Literature Festival every September . Worldwide readings have been held regularly since 2006 . The Odessa International Literature Festival has been held annually in September and October since 2015. The Versfest berlin took place for the first time in March 2017 .
