Peter Ascherl (born June 7, 1953 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a former German - Canadian ice hockey player . He was active in the ice hockey Bundesliga for the Mannheim ERC , Cologne EC and the Düsseldorfer EG .

Career

Peter Ascherl began his career in Canada with the Cambridge Hornets in the OHA-Sr. His ancestors came from Germany . In 1979 he moved to Mannheim in the ice hockey Bundesliga at the instigation of the then coach of the Mannheim ERC, Heinz Weisenbach . For Mannheim he played 124 games in three seasons and scored 125 points , including 68 goals. In 1980 he was German champion with Mannheim . After the 1981/1982 season he played for the Cologne EC and scored 20 points scorer in the regular season. Via Eintracht Frankfurt he returned briefly from the second division to the first division at DEG , but had to end his career after 24 games and nine scorer points in the regular season. Ascherl was the first black German ice hockey player and was extremely popular with fans during his career in Mannheim.

After the career

Ascherl studied law at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg in Heidelberg during his playing career . Today he works as a lawyer in his hometown in Canada, where he is a specialist in German law.
