Peter Hill (Slavist)

Peter Manners Hill (born October 16, 1945 in Perth ) is an Australian Slavist .

Peter M. Hill studied German and Russian at the University of Melbourne , where he obtained a bachelor's degree in 1966 and a master's degree in 1971. In 1972 he did his doctorate at the University of Hamburg and took up a position as an assistant, where he was later appointed professor. 1983–1986 he was on leave in Hamburg and worked as a lecturer for South Slavic Studies at the University of Sydney , 1991–1995 he was on leave again and worked at the Australian National University . In 2000 he retired in Hamburg and returned to Australia.

Hill initially worked on questions of lexicology, from the 1980s he specialized in the Macedonian language . He was a founding member of the Slavic Konstanzer Kreis .
