The Peter Holten Septet , at times also the Peter Holten Sextet , in both variants occasionally with one or two hyphens, was a rock band in the GDR . It was founded in 1970 and dissolved in 1979.

Band history

The band was founded as an amateur band by singer and keyboardist Peter Grasnick, bass guitarist Dieter Wiesjahn, drummer Bernd Schwitzke, singer Bernd Bangel, guitarist and singer Victor Heyse, keyboardist Michael Peglau and singer Brigitte Grasnick. The name “Holten” is fictional and was chosen because band leader Grasnick was studying law at the same time and was not allowed to appear as a musician under his name. In the first few years of its existence, the band had success with rock music. In 1975 all musicians except the Grasnick left the band to found Babylon . New to the Peter Holten Septet were Thomas Friedrich (vocals), guitarist Peter Nehls (previously with Joco Dev ), bass guitarist Wolf-Dieter Bienge, keyboardist Julius Krebs and Peter Lucht (drums).

Peter Nehls left the band in 1978 and was replaced by guitarists Michael Otter and Roland Wolter. In 1979 the band broke up after differences. Peter and Brigitte Grasnick were later successful together with the guitarist Norbert Sprenger in the country rock trio Brigitte & Co.

The Peter Holten Septet played rock music with demanding lyrics.
