Peter Klein (dendrologist)

Peter Klein (born January 17, 1945 ) is a German wood scientist.

Life

Peter Klein did an apprenticeship as a sawmill . From 1968 he studied wood management at the University of Hamburg and received his doctorate in 1976. From 1978 to 1981 he was a research assistant at the Gemäldegalerie Berlin , after which he worked again as a research assistant at the University of Hamburg. In 2001 he became a professor at the University of Applied Sciences Hildesheim, Holzminden, Göttingen - University of Applied Sciences and Art and completed his habilitation in 2005 at the University of Hamburg. There he received the Venia legendi for the subject wood biology and worked at the Center for Wood Management and at the Institute for Wood Technology and Wood Biology of the Johann Heinrich von Thünen Institute .

In addition to teaching, Klein specialized in dendrochronology . With his work he was able to support the work in the Rembrandt Research Project to clarify dating questions. Since his retirement in 2010 he has been working in the private sector as an international expert, in 2013 he wrote a contribution to an exhibition Jan Brueghel the Elder of the Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen . In 2018, his positive expertise on two baroque cabinets by the carpenter André-Charles Boulle was questioned by counter-reports.
