Peter Lerche (anthropologist)

Peter Thomas Lerche (* in Germany in the 20th century ) is a German- Peruvian anthropologist and ancient Americanist . He is mainly concerned with the prehistoric people of the Chachapoya .

Life

Lerche studied anthropology and ethnology. In 1985 Lerche received his doctorate from the Free University of Berlin . In 1983 Lerche moved to Peru and later worked there for the Instituto Nacional de Cultura del Perú as a consultant for tourism development and as director of the department for the conservation of archaeological monuments. In 1998 he founded the non-governmental Camayoc Foundation, which cares for the protection of the Peruvian cultural history. From 2007 to 2010 he was mayor of the city of Chachapoyas in Peru.

Lerche is married to a Peruvian woman and has renounced German citizenship .
