Peter Luger (born July 2, 1943 in Berlin ) is a German chemist ( inorganic chemistry ) and crystallographer .

Luger studied at the Free University of Berlin with his doctorate in 1970 (radiographic examinations of cyclohexane derivatives) and his habilitation in 1974. He has been a professor there since 1979.

In 1985 he was at Brookhaven National Laboratory and in 1995 at the University of Okayama .

He deals with the structure determination of small organic and inorganic molecules with X-ray, synchrotron and neutron radiation, especially at low temperatures (single crystal diffraction experiments at 15 Kelvin).

In 2015 he received the Carl Hermann Medal .
