Peter McLagan

Peter McLagan (* 1823 in Demerara ; † August 31, 1900 ) was a British entrepreneur and politician of the Liberal Party .

Peter McLagan was born in 1823 as the third son of Peter McLagan. He attended Tillycoultry School and studied at the University of Edinburgh .

McLagan was a landowner in Pumpherston , West Lothian . In 1863 he had slate quarried there. In 1866 he founded E Meldrum & Company together with Edward Meldrum and George Simpson . The company operated the Boghall Shale Oil Works and the Stankards Oil Works . 1871 entrepreneurship McLagans and his two partners led to the creation of Uphall Mineral Oil Company Ltd .

From July 11, 1865 until his resignation in 1893, he represented the constituency of Linlithgowshire in the House of Commons . On June 2, 1893, he was Crown Steward and Bailiff of the Manor of Northstead , leaving the House of Commons.

He died in August 1900 at the age of 77. McLagan married Elizabeth Anne Taylor († 1882) in 1876. The marriage remained childless.
