Peter Nebelo

Peter Nebelo (born April 23, 1957 in Bocholt ) is a German local politician and full-time mayor of the city of Bocholt.

Nebelo grew up as the oldest of six children of a milling cutter. After graduating from high school in 1978 at the newly founded Euregio-Gymnasium , of which he was the first student representative from 1974 to 1976, he served two years in the armed forces , most recently as a non-commissioned officer , and then began studying law at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . After his legal clerkship, he settled in Bocholt as a lawyer in 1990.

In 1973 Nebelo joined the SPD , from 1975 to 1976 he was chairman of the Bocholt Young Socialists. In 2004 he was proposed by the SPD for the office of mayor and was elected in a runoff election with 50.81% of the vote. He was the first mayor from the ranks of the SPD, previously this was always provided by the CDU . His inauguration took place on October 13, 2004. On August 30, 2009, he was elected for a further six years with 46.4% of all votes cast. In the local elections on September 13, 2015, Nebelo was re-elected; in the first ballot he already received an absolute majority of 52.4%; his only competitor Heinrich Welsing (CDU) came up with 47.6%.
