Peter Noelke

Peter Noelke (born February 13, 1941 in Bielefeld ) is a German provincial Roman archaeologist .

Peter Noelke completed his studies in 1973 with a master's degree from the University of Bonn . In 1981 he was at the University of Erlangen with a thesis on the Jupiter column in the Germanic provinces doctorate . Between 1982 and 1995 Noelke was a lecturer at the University of Cologne . In 1997 he was appointed honorary professor there.

From 1971 to 1973 he was a research assistant at the Rheinisches Landesmuseum Bonn . In 1974 he became a lecturer at the museums of the city of Cologne , then initially a scientific consultant, then curator at the Roman-Germanic Museum in Cologne. From 1985 to 2006 he was director of the Cologne Museum Service . In 2001 Noelke became a member of the German Archaeological Institute .

Noelke's research area is the sculpture of the Roman provinces. For example, he is researching the Roman grave reliefs with depictions of meals in the two Germania and their neighboring regions, the stone monuments of Roman Cologne, the Cologne collections of ancient stone monuments from humanism to the Enlightenment, as well as tank statues and the genus of honorary statues in the northern border provinces of the Roman Empire.
