Peter Oberndorfer (* 1942 in Linz ) is an Austrian lawyer and emeritus university professor . From 1979 to 1981 he was rector of the Johannes Kepler University Linz .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1960, Oberndorfer began studying law at the University of Vienna and graduated in 1964. Between 1964 and 1965 he completed his legal practice at the Regional Court for Civil Law Matters in Vienna, at the Commercial Court in Vienna and at the District Court of Bad Ischl. In 1965 he entered the service of the newly founded University for Social and Economic Sciences (today: University of Linz ) and worked at the Institute for Business Law as an assistant to Professor Ludwig Fröhler . In 1972 Oberndorfer was appointed full university professor for public law at the Institute for Administrative Law and Constitutional Law. He also worked from 1979 to 1981 as rector of the University of Linz. Furthermore, from 1977 to 1987 he was director of the Institute for Administrative Law and Administrative Doctrine.

In addition to his teaching and research activities, Oberndorfer worked from 1984 to 2012 as the highest judge at the Austrian Constitutional Court. His academic works include the standard works “The Austrian Administrative Courts” and “The Austrian Municipal Law”. Oberndorfer is also the editor of “Grundriss der Verwaltungslehre” and “Österreichische Verwaltungslehre”.

Since 1962 he has been a member of the Catholic student association KaV Marco-Danubia Vienna .
