Peter Gardner Ostrum (born  November 1, 1957 in Dallas , Texas ) is an American actor who played the role of Charlie Bucket in the 1971 version in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory .

He is married and has two children.

Ostrum is no longer active as an actor, but works as a veterinarian in Lowville , New York .
