Peter Polterauer

Peter Polterauer (born January 19, 1945 in Vienna ) is an Austrian doctor and full professor at the Medical University of Vienna . He is a vascular surgeon and was head of the clinical department for vascular surgery at the University Clinic for Surgery at the General Hospital Vienna. He was followed by Ihor Huk .

Life

Polterauer studied medicine from 1963 to 1969 at the University of Vienna and at the University of Paris . In 1976 he became a specialist in surgery , and in 1983 he became an additive specialist in vascular surgery. From 1978 to 1979 he worked at Vanderbilt University .

In 1981 he was granted the license to teach and he was appointed university lecturer in surgery, in 1987 he was given the professional title of associate university professor. In 1993 he became full professor for vascular surgery and head of the clinical department for vascular surgery at the University of Vienna, AKH . From 1998 to 2005 he was director of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Interdisciplinary Clinical Research on Vascular Medicine.

Polterauer's clinical focuses are the therapy of aortic aneurysms , surgery of the common carotid artery , the therapy of peripheral arterial occlusive disease and varices .
