Peter Rot

Peter Rot ( first mentioned in 1452 ; † 1487 in Basel ) was a Swiss politician .

Life

Peter Rot, son of Mayor Hans Rot, went on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem in 1453, where he was knighted. In 1455 he was elected mayor for the first time, an office which he held alternately with Johannes von Bärenfels from 1464 until his death. In 1475/76 he was a colonel in the Basle troops in the Burgundian Wars . He donated the Peter-Rot-Altar (today in the Basel Historical Museum).

Peter Rot-Strasse in Kleinbasel is named after Peter Rot.
