Peter Stein (Germanist)

Peter Stein (* 1941 ) is a German specialist in German .

Life

After studying in Marburg and Hamburg, he was lecturer at the German Center in Norrköping (Sweden) in 1966/67, and received his doctorate in Hamburg in 1971 . From 1968 to 1974 he was in the Hamburg school service. From 1974 to 1986 he was an academic adviser in teaching German, from 1986 to 2004 he taught as academic director and (from 1999) as an adjunct professor in the field of language and communication of the master’s course in applied cultural studies . From 1987 to 1988 Stein was dean of the educational sciences department, and from 1990 to 1992 prorector of the University of Lüneburg. In 1994 he was one of the co-founders of the Vormärz Research Forum (FVF, Bielefeld). In 1997 he completed his habilitation at the University of Hanover, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences with the Venia for Modern German Literature History and Modern German Press History.

His research areas are literature from the German pre-March period (1815–1848); Politics and literature; Heinrich Mann; Writing culture and press history.
