Peter T. Daniels (born December 11, 1951 ) is an American linguist .

Life

Daniels studied languages ​​at Cornell University and the University of Chicago . He has taught at the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee and Chicago State University and has been visiting professor on three continents. Today Daniels lives in New York and works for a book publisher.

Peter Daniels has specialized in the subject of writing. Since 1990 he has turned the term Abdschad , which comes from the Arabic counting tradition and stands for an alphabet sorting sequence, into the term for a certain, vowelless alphabet font (also Abugida ) in a series of publications , but has not gone unchallenged. Together with William Bright he is the editor of the extensive standard work The World's Writing Systems (German: The writing systems of the world ).
