Peter Thiergen

Peter Thiergen (born October 17, 1939 in Leipzig ) is a German Slavist .

Life

From 1945 to 1953 he attended elementary school in Markranstädt and from 1953 to 1960 the grammar school Philippinum Weilburg . From 1960 to 1966 he studied Latin and Slavic Philology in Marburg (1964 preliminary scientific examination (pedagogical course) in the subject of educational sciences / 1966 state examination in Latin and Russian philology). After completing his doctorate in 1969: Slavic Studies as a double major, and a minor in Latin Philology, he was a research assistant at the Slavic Department of the University of Bonn from 1969 to 1979 (chair Hans Rothe ). After the Habilitation 1976 award of the Venia legendi for Slavic Philology by the Faculty of Arts of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Bonn he represented in the winter semester 1977/1978 the Chair at the Slavonic Department of the University of Hamburg (Chair Dietrich Kurt Gerhardt ). In the summer semester of 1978 he took the chair at the Slavic seminar at the University of Bonn (chair Hans Rothe). In 1979 he was appointed to the C3 professorship for Slavic literary studies at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen . From 1979 to 1981 he taught on the C4 professorship for Slavic Philology (literary studies) at the Goethe University (successor to Alfred Rammelmeyer ). From 1981 to 1987 he held a personal professorship at the University of Basel for Slavic Philology (successor to Hildegard Schroeder ). From 1987 until his retirement in 2005 he taught as C4 professor for Slavic Philology (literary studies) at the University of Bamberg (successor to Walter Schamschula ). In April 1990 he turned down the call to the C4 professorship for Slavic Philology at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (successor to Ulrich Busch ).

His main research interests are Russian literary and intellectual history from the 18th to 20th centuries. Century, South Slavic literary and cultural history (Croatia, Dalmatia, Serbia), history of reception and impact (Russian-German, German-Russian), imagology / research on national images, motif and topos research, conceptual history, literature and philosophy and the aftermath of ancient authors.
