Peter Tschernko (born February 22, 1960 ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ). From 1996 to 2019 he was a member of the Styrian state parliament .

Life

After finishing primary and secondary school, Tschernko attended a technical school for social work and learned the profession of office clerk. He also passed the vocational maturity examination and completed a course for adult education. In addition, between April and November 1979 he did his military service with the Landwehr Tribe Regiment 53 in Graz. Chernko was last on leave as a contract employee.

Tschernko joined the Young People's Party in 1988 and took over the office of mayor of Eichberg-Trautenburg in 1990 . He has also been the district chairman of the ÖAAB in the Leibnitz district since 1995 and was a member of the Styrian state parliament from 1996. In addition, he was elected local party chairman of the ÖVP-Eichberg-Trautenburg in 2000. He was the area spokesman for tourism in the ÖVP state parliament club and sees his political focus in the areas of social affairs and rural areas. After the state elections in 2019 , he left the state parliament.

Chernko is married and has one daughter.
