Peter Warschow

Peter Warschow , also Warskow (* around 1417 in Greifswald ; † 1486 there ) was Mayor of Greifswald.

Life

Peter Warschow's childhood and adolescence are in the dark. On October 17, 1437 he enrolled at the University of Rostock , which at that time was in Greifswald.

In 1442 he inherited his father's house in Greifswalder Knopfstrasse. In 1463 he was appointed mayor as the successor to the murdered Heinrich Rubenow . In 1480 he gave up his office for reasons of age.

Will and Foundation

In his will, Warschow bequeathed property of 1111 acres and a piece of land in what was then "Vyßstraten" to a foundation to be established. The investment income of the foundation should serve the social security of the “poor youngsters” from the four trades blacksmith, Schumacher, Schneider and Pelzer / Kürschner. The dowry provided by the foundation should enable the daughters of the guild members to marry without the risk of impoverishment. In addition, the will stipulated a collation (celebratory event with an annual report) for the memorandum of the founder and its programmatic process.

The will itself and accompanying documents have been lost since the 18th century, as they are believed to have been a victim of the city fire of 1./2. March 1713. In 1726 an excerpt was submitted to clarify the foundation supervision.

At the turn of the 20th century, the assets were 20 Pomeranian acres and 8,361 marks in cash. The lease or interest income is described at 1,063.78 marks.

In 1952 the Peter Warschow Foundation was merged with four other foundations and in 1956 with the foundations, convents and hospitals in Greifswald that were still in existence - with the exception of the Johanna Odebrecht Foundation , which remained independent. A total of 72 individual foundations were incorporated into the Peter Warschow Collective Foundation, which is still in existence today, and its extensive property assets have been transferred back to it since 1990.
