Peter Alan Yeldham (born April 25, 1927 in Smithtown , New South Wales , Australia ) is an Australian writer , playwright and screenwriter who worked for many years in Great Britain .

Life

Early days in Australia

After leaving school at 16, Yeldham first worked as a farm worker in the outback of native Australia. As a young man he went to Sydney and earned his first media spurs as an errand boy for the local radio station Radio 2GB. At the end of the war in 1945 he was able to publish his first manuscripts and was responsible for his own weekly column in The Listener magazine. After serving in the Australian-British occupation army in Japan, Yeldham returned to the radio and newspaper. In 1956, Peter Yeldham and his family moved to Great Britain, where he stayed for the next 20 years.

Scriptwriting in Great Britain

In 1957, Yeldham began his career in London as a television screenwriter. A wage worker in the field of mass and series entertainment, the Briton by choice wrote a wealth of books on series popular at the time in the coming decades, initially often from the police and criminal milieu. Since the beginning of the 1960s, commissions for TV individual productions have also been added, but occasionally during this decade he also wrote the manuscripts for adventure, crime and agent stories, such as The Damned of the Blue , intended for cinemas and set in exotic locations Mountains , In Beirut the nights are long , L - The silent one and Marrakech . Neither of these flicks was intellectually superior, but they were properly crafted mainstream entertainment. Despite these excursions to the cinema, Peter Yeldham - back in Australia since 1976 - remained mostly a television screenwriter into the 21st century, who covered almost all genres thematically.

Literary publications

Yeldham also published an abundance of books, especially in his late creative period, including The Currency Lads (1988). Reprisal (1994), Without Warning (1995), Two Sides of a Triangle (1996), A Bitter Harvest (1997), Against the Tide (1999), Land of Dreams (2002), A Distant Shore (2009), Glory Girl (2010), The Murrumbidgee Kid (2007), Barbed Wire and Roses (2008), Above the Fold (2014) and Dragons in the Forest (2016). His stage works include Birds on the Wing (1969), Split down the Middle (1998), Seven Little Australians (1988, a musical), Birds on the Wing (1970), Jedem Das Seine (1977), Lighting Up Time: A Comedy (1977), But She Won't Lie Down: A Comedy Thriller in Two Acts (1978), and My Friend Miss Flint (1984). Several of his pieces, including the comedies Auf und aus (1970), Bleib wie du bist (1973) and Everybody's His (1977), were also adapted for German television.
