description

The castle site, located in a small wooded area, the Tannbergwald, is about 800 meters northeast of the Catholic parish church of St. Johannes Nepomuk von Dorfbach . It is located on the site of the former Unterdorfbach Castle and is around 325 meters northeast of the center of the hamlet of Unterhartdobl. The Burgstall at about 390  m above sea level. NHN Höhe is 80 meters from the course of the stream on a slope of the Königbach river that slopes only moderately steeply to the west. The castle complex was only somewhat protected from the west; to the east the fore area, which forms a narrow spur between the Königbachtal and another, nameless brook valley, rises the castle.

The castle site on a tower-like cone of terrain, which belongs to the type of ground-level mansions , was secured on its east side by a ditch cut out of the valley slope . This arch-shaped ditch has the greatest width in the east, surrounds the north and south sides and merges into a stepped terrace on the west side of the valley at the foot of the cone. On this side there is a dam-like ascent to the plateau of the cone. The plateau of the castle complex slopes down to the northwest and still contains faint traces of an edge rampart all around, which had grown into a shield rampart on the endangered east side. There are two digging hoppers on this plateau.
