Schloss Aicha vorm Wald is a castle in the municipality of Aicha vorm Wald and the only moated castle in the Bavarian Forest . The castle is somewhat hidden on the outskirts of the village on a small elevation in the Gaißa valley .

history

A tower in “Aichakirchen” owned by the Counts von Hals is first documented at the beginning of the 14th century. Since 1360 the dynasty of the Pfeil was feudal lord . At the beginning of the 16th century the castle was taken over by the Püchler von Weideneck and in 1540 by marriage the Siegertshofer. Anton von Siegertshofen died in 1548, Kaspar von Siegertshofen in 1562, his wife Susanna in 1565. This was followed by the nobles von Stoer, who around 1580 essentially designed the current appearance of the complex. In 1682 the electoral councilor Baron Kaspar von Schmidt zu Sulzbach bought the castle and sold it again to Siegmund Friederich Süntzl von Söldenau before 1689 . After his and his widow's death, Adam Leopold von Rehling inherited it in 1724. Max Alois von Asch bought it from him. On June 10th, 1742 the Pandours devastated the place. Baron von Hackledt bought the castle in 1752, and in 1773 it passed to Baron von Schönhueb. In the years 1765 to 1777, Baron von Schrecksleb is also named as the owner of some properties. In 1776 the owner at the time set up a chapel on the upper floor of the castle. In 1792 Joseph Anton Freiherr von Hackledt took over the castle. He died in 1799, and in 1800 his heir, Baron Joseph von Peckenzell, became the new lord of the castle. In 1816 the master dyer and later member of the state parliament, Friedrich Zaspel, bought the property. Peckenzell, however, sold the Dominicals in 1816 to Kajetan von Hueb zu Eberhardsreut.

The doctor Alexander Erhard, the son of the historiographer of the same name, had his practice here from 1856 to 1866. In 1870 part of the castle collapsed on the northeast corner. In 1952 it came into the possession of Alexis Prince von Croÿ (1910–2002), who had been expelled from Bohemia, and his wife Elisabeth, née Countess von Beaufort-Spontin (1911–1995) (see Huy House ). The castle is still owned by the family.

Opposite the castle, a guesthouse with an inn ( inn at the castle ) was set up.

Building description

The castle consists of an imposing mansion with a raised hipped roof and smaller outbuildings that are grouped around an inner courtyard . This courtyard is surrounded on all sides by three-storey porticoes with arcades dating from 1580 to 1610. There is a tower-like structure on the north side of the facility. The only non-stylistic element is a sloping wall in the northeast, which was built after the corner wing collapsed in 1870.
