Tower Hill Schlosshöhe

The tower hill castle height is an Outbound medieval hilltop castle above a river valley in the yard Baumgarten , in the municipality of Bad Griesbach in the district of Passau in Bavaria . No historical or archaeological information is known about this tower hill castle (moth). It is roughly dated as medieval , broken pieces and burnt clay lumps were found there, but the masonry of the earlier castle buildings was not found. Only the tower hill, a moat and a rampart have survived from the complex. The site is protected as a ground monument number D-2-7545-0001 "Tower Hill of the Middle Ages".

description

The forested castle site is located around 250 meters east-southeast of the Baumgarten farm on the eastern slope of a nameless stream that rises just north of the tower and flows into the Afham stream at Afham . The castle was thus naturally secured against any approach on its west side by the swampy valley floor. In the north and south the terrain of the tower hill merges into the steep slope, to the east the tower hill is elevated by a small hilltop.

The frustoconical tower hill on a slope sloping to the west is steeply sloped on all sides, and still reaches a height of eight to ten meters. On its east side it has a small terrace. The oval plateau of this hill measures 35 × 25 meters, there are no traces of former buildings. Around the foot of the tower hill there is an only slightly pronounced ring moat , to which a low wall is in front to the west and south. The earlier access to the complex was probably on the north-north-west side of the castle site, there the moat is interrupted.
