The Neujochenstein castle ruins are the ruins of a hilltop castle on an elevation above the Danube near the Jochenstein at 583 m above sea level. NN . It is located on the outskirts of Riedl, a village in the municipality of Untergriesbach in the Lower Bavarian district of Passau .
history
Neujochenstein Castle was probably founded due to lack of space on Altjochenstein Castle, which is only a few hundred meters away, and was first mentioned in a document in 1299, when its owner Eberwein von Jochenstein granted Bishop Wernhard von Passau ( Hochstift Passau ) extensive access rights. The castle was sold in 1310 and caretakers occupied it until the 16th century . After that, the castle quickly fell into disrepair.
From 2006 to 2007, the Untergriesbach community carried out renovation work on the remains of the castle. The Burgplatz is now a ground monument and the castle remains an architectural monument .
A 22-meter-high prominent corner of the keep , large remains of the moat system and some building hollows have been preserved from the castle complex.
