from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The lost Leoprechting Castle was a castle in the municipality of the same name in the Lower Bavarian district of Passau .

history

Leoprechting Palace was built around 1342 by Walhun den Haderer as a large pond complex with a residential building grouped in a polygon around an inner courtyard. With Christian von Watzmannsdorf in 1371 the aristocratic residence came into the hands of the Watzmannsdorf family. In 1527, Christoph II, the last male from Watzmannsdorf, died. In 1581 his heirs sold the castle and the manor to the Passau bishopric . In the 16th century, extensions and alterations took place, the castle was used as the seat of a nursing court of the bishopric from 1593 . It was then secularized with most of the high estates in favor of Ferdinand of Tuscany . Since the peace treaties of Brno and Pressburg in 1805 , the place has belonged to Bavaria. The castle was sold against demolition and was described as dilapidated in 1876. The north wing of the outbuildings has been preserved.
