Dorfbach is a parish village and a district as well as a district of the Markt Ortenburg in the district of Passau .

In the 12th century Dorfbach appears as a noble seat, the owners of which were vassals of the Counts of Ortenburg . The Hofmark belonged to the counts, but it was not part of the adjacent imperial county of Ortenburg , but belonged to the Duchy of Bavaria . Heinrich IV gave it to Friedrich von Rottau (Rotau) as a fief in the 14th century . With Alram I's marriage in 1381 to the rich widow Barbara von Rottau and the renunciation of the next of kin of her deceased husband, this property fell back to the Ortenburgers' house. Since then, Alram I. Graf zu Ortenburg called himself, sat at Dorfbach. After the death of his son Alram II in 1461, the Dorfbach line of the Ortenburgers died out, and the Hofmark fell to the House of Neu-Ortenburg .

There is evidence of a castle in Dorfbach as early as 1387. Later two castles Oberdorf and Unterdorfbach can also be found here. In the course of the introduction of the Reformation in Ortenburg in 1563, Dorfbach, as an Ortenburg property, was drawn into the conflict in the following decades and occupied by Bavarian troops. Count Friedrich Casimir had the Unterdorfbach Castle busily beautified and expanded into his residence, but after 1652 he had to sell the castle and the Oberdorf and Unterdorfbach rulers to the Peckenzell family due to financial hardship. The Peckenzell held the property until 1805. The small Oberdorfbach Castle was already demolished during this period, and its location is still unknown today. The Peckenzell came to the Gant in 1805 and were thus forced to sell their properties around Dorfbach to the Bavarian state. Only parts of the former moated castle Unterdorfbach are left. Most of the palace complex was demolished, while the remains of the school and the church of St. John Nepomuk were housed in 1836. The latter was embedded in the former palace hall.

In 1836, the Dorfbach branch was established within the Rainding parish . In 1882 the choir was added to the church . A roof turret is located above the west gable of the flat-roofed nave . The interior contains several baroque figures. In 1900 the Expositur was raised to a parish .

SV Dorfbach was founded on July 11, 1959. At the general assembly on August 9, 1974, the DJK Sports Association was joined. Since then, the association has been run under the name DJK-SV Dorfbach. The Dorfbach brass band was established in 1990.

On July 1, 1972, the municipality of Dorfbach lost its independence as part of the municipal reform and has been part of the Ortenburg market ever since.
