Peter of Gruyeres

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Peter von Greyerz († 1448 ) was a Bernese magistrate.

Act

It is possible that reference is made to his work in the work Formicarius (Eng. "The anthill") of the Dominican and theologian Johannes Nider from 1437/1438.

Peter von Greyerz was Kastlan zu Zweisimmen in 1392 after the Simmental fell to Bern in the course of armed conflicts (1389–91) . He was supposed to enforce the integration of the newly won territory into the Bernese territory. This met with fierce resistance from the population, who stubbornly clung to old customary and political rights of participation. Peter von Greyerz made use of the novel sorcery and witch trial , which did not compete with the traditional legal material of the region.
