The Petersbrunnen was a bath house in Leipzig's western suburb . From the beginning of the 19th century, tubs and steam baths were offered in Petersbrunnen for over 100 years .

history

After Erdmann Traugott Reichel (1748–1832) had acquired the already reduced Apel Garden in 1787 , he began to use this - now Reichel's garden - also economically at the beginning of the 19th century . Among other things, he had a bath house built. The building was three-story with an octagonal floor plan and had a dome-shaped slate roof with two rows of dormers . The building is already included in the city model of Leipzig from 1822 in the ballroom of the old town hall and was first mentioned in writing in an address book from 1853 as "Petersbrunnen". The building was also called the “bird cage” because of its shape.

After the further development of the Westvorstadt, the Petersbrunnen was now a bit set back on a junction of Dorotheenstraße, which was built in 1845 and has been called Otto-Schill- Straße since 1912 . The junction has been called Apels Garten since 1923.

The ground floor of the bathhouse was also used for other purposes. A shop was to be found around 1910, and from 1925 at the latest, the Leipzig vehicle manufacturer Dobernecker and Groh . This can also be found on a picture from 1937. The bathroom was still in operation in the first third of the 20th century.
