Petersburg tram mechanical plant
The Petersburg Tramway Mechanical Plant (PTMS) ( Russian ОАО "Петербургский трамвайно-механический завод" ( ПТМЗ )) was a Russian manufacturer of tram vehicles based in Saint Petersburg . The PTMS was founded in 1929 as a wagon repair shop for the Leningrad tram company . In 1933, in addition to the overhaul work, PTMS began designing its own tram car. In the course of its existence the company was renamed several times, official names were
- since 1929 Вагоноремонтный завод , ВАРЗ - wagon repair shop , WARS;
- Since the early 1960s Завод по ремонту городского электротранспорта , ЗРГЭТ - overhaul plant for electric urban transport, SRGET;
- since the late 1970s Ленинградский трамвайно-троллейбусный завод , ЛТТЗ - Leningrad Tram and Trolley Bus Plant, LTTS;
On March 17, 1993, the former state-owned company was converted to an open joint-stock company (Открытое Акционерное Общество, OAO) and has had its current name ever since.
Most recently, the plant produced LWS-2005 and LM-2008 trams in series and developed a new type of articulated wagon LWS-2009 (71-154) for the Metrotram Volgograd .
In 2013 the factory was declared bankrupt and finally wound up. Factory buildings have meanwhile been demolished, the factory premises have been leveled for the construction of luxury apartments.
