The PTMS 71-153 is from the Russian mechanical tram Petersburg factory (PTMS) built tram vehicle . The type is also referred to as LM-2008 based on earlier PTMS tram types . The abbreviation LM means L eningradski M otorny ( Russian Ленинградский Моторный , German Leningrader railcar), the number 2008 corresponds to the year of construction of the first vehicle. The 71-153 with energy-saving, fully computerized three-phase drive control has a low-floor area of 40% in the middle of its car body . There is a folding ramp for wheelchairs at the second door. The 71-153 is equipped with a passenger information system with LED displays and a digital radio intercom. A digital television system with two cameras and a TFT screen is available to the driver to monitor the passenger compartment and the non-visible space outside the vehicle. All information about the condition of the car is also displayed on the TFT screen. The 71-153 is a one-way vehicle and can only run on lines with reversing loops or triangles at the ends of the route. A major disadvantage of the 71-153 is that it can only be used as a solo multiple unit. The vehicle has no possibility of multiple traction and there are no sidecars.

PTMS has been building the 71-153 since 2008, and 62 cars had been produced by 2012. 33 vehicles were delivered to Saint Petersburg and one each to Nizhny Novgorod , Tula and Krasnoyarsk . Two test vehicles were delivered to Moscow in 2009 . Moscow received 21 vehicles of the subtype 71-153 in 2010, which can be used in multiple traction.
